Growth
When you think of growth what comes to mind? Is it a little kid who is not-so-little anymore? A tree that now blocks a view? Or maybe it’s personal, a job that brought you above where you once were. Anyway you think of it, growth includes a concept of change.
One definition of growth is “the process of increasing in amount, value, or importance.”
Sounds simple enough, but how do we execute on this idea of increasing the importance or value of ourselves? The answer is mindset.
The basic idea of “what you think you become” dates back thousands of years, it has been said a million times in a million ways. Starting in 600 A.D. with:
“Watch your thoughts, they become your words. Watch your words, they become your actions. Watch your actions, they become your habits. Watch your habits, they become your character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” -Lao Tzu
This speaks to the impact your thoughts have on creating your entire destiny. Moving to the modern day, science is proving these theories about how our brains find what they are trained to look for whether it be happiness or negativity. Growth starts with your mindset.
So how do we create this mindset? Not overnight, but one day at a time. Start small and train your brain to think the way you want to live.
Here are some of the best techniques we found for creating a better mindset:
o Seek out positives- Take your failures, struggles, and setbacks and spin a positive light to them. Work on seeing the upside of any situation and eventually it will become an automatic response.
o Try a few tactics out- Adjust your mindset and see how it changes your life. Keep a journal of how each change affects you, and adjust according to your goals.
o Reward yourself- Acknowledge when you are successfully implementing your changes. It can be self-praise, anything.
o You don’t have to do it alone- Share your positive thoughts out-loud, online, to anyone who will listen. Sometimes having others to inspire or hold you accountable can be a huge factor.
Growth of all types begins from within
Take a few minutes today to reflect on your goals. Are you on track to meet them? Need to raise them? Or maybe you need to completely change direction. Either way, start small, make a plan, and decide what you need to do to reach them.
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.” —Henry Ford
