Setting career goals in 2022 to transform your professional and interpersonal skills!
Setting career goals is crucial for anyone looking to up their game! We’re ALREADY a month into the new year. Hopefully by now you’ve had time to sit down and reflect on your professional and personal goals for the next 11 months. If not, now’s the time! Are you hoping to get a job promotion or improve your skillset in 2022? Whatever your goals may look like – it’s always nice to revisit where you see yourself in the upcoming months.
If you haven’t had a chance to reflect on what 2022 will look like, consider these career goals!
Setting Career Goals 1: ENHANCE YOUR SOFT SKILLS
I’ve been caught up thinking of how I can be a better recruiter. Do I need a certain certification? Should I look into a sales training course? Would it be in my best interest to read a book about negotiation? All of those certifications, courses, and books would definitely add to my skillset. I don’t want to get too caught up in the pragmatism of what I’ve learned and think: “Okay, I saw this in that one book I read, page 542 paragraph 3, and this is what I’m supposed to do.” Instead, what if I paired the technical skills that I’ve learned with the interpersonal skills such as empathy, communication, strategy, and creativity?
For every technical skill I absorb, I couple it with enhancing my soft skills by looking at creative thinking courses, improving my presentation and communication with groups like Toastmasters, or developing my leadership skills by heading a new project at work.
Setting Career Goals 2: DEVELOP A BETTER WORK-LIFE BALANCE
I always struggle to find the perfect balance between work and life. It’s an ever-lasting pendulum depending on where I’m at in my life – both professionally and personally.
As a people pleaser, and someone that really likes to accomplish anything I put my mind to, I want to push myself to say “no” more often, learn to prioritize my workload, and work on understanding that sweet spot: “can this be done tomorrow, or can it wait?”
And Our FINAL Tip: EXPLORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT
How time flies! In April, I’ll hit my one-year anniversary at Route Networking Group. I’ve always hated the feeling of plateauing or feeling “stuck.” I’m always looking at what I can do to be better at my job. Whether it’s reflecting on interactions with candidates or clients to look at how I can improve, working towards a tech recruiting certification, or brainstorming ways to help the team as a whole, I’m thankful that my company enables me the opportunities for growth.
What can you do to explore your career development? First, it’s always good to set a concrete plan for what your growth looks like. Lay down your plan then break it down into smaller steps. These steps could be updating your resume, talking to a manager about what your goals are, or taking time to learn a new skillset.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t hurt to speak with your friends and family or even a recruiter to see what type of opportunities are out there that may support what your future career goals are!
